30poems – Day 9

At 20 years old I dressed as Emily Dickinson for Halloween.

I was living in Amherst.  Ripe, ironic, soulful, longing.

So it is:  October in New England crisp with apples.  Wearing layers to ward off the chill.

Later that year, I embraced the thing with feathers.

She has kept me company lo the many years and costume changes.
