All the cool kids on Twitter seem to be blogging #reverb10 where daily themes reflecting on the past year are offered up for blogging response. The prompt for December 6 – Make.
What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?
Across the dining table, in neat rows, are holiday cards. Ink is drying, and a list of addresses bringing names of dear ones to mind rests beside the rubber stamps and assorted tools of mass construction. For the past few days we’ve been making slow progress on the making of these somewhat messy, but extremely charming and heart-felt cards. In a burst of creative imagining we thought this would be a fun project, and it has been. But being creative with layers of color and fine print is a bit more work that I’d bargained for at the outset!
I really like making things. Being creative in the kitchen, or with words (ha!). And it is always a chore to clear away time for such pleasures. It is an adventure to dive into the realm of arts and crafts – and a gift, more for me than the card recipients I fear! – when I do so. For 2o11 I’ll make the attempt, the vow, the resolution to be creative everyday…again. And I expect that on some days – it will stick.
