Palm Sunday – Gratitude Challenge

Holy Week (in the Lenten calendar) begins, and Passover is upon us, too.  And I’m thinking just how political this season is…

When it comes to liberation, love, the power of small groups to influence huge movements…the words of personal stories, acts of justice, celebrations of community are at the heart of this season.  Giving words to the struggles and hopes of humanity can be political.  Striving to express the transformation of a people or a single heart may be a great rebellion.  Bearing witness and affirming the voice of one who has been silenced, may change the world.  Writing from the depths of ones knowing may simply be a healing elixir, a revolution of grace or a return from exile.  Come and go with me…

When Someone Deeply Listens To You

When someone deeply listens to you
it is like holding out a dented cup
you’ve had since childhood
and watching it fill up with
cold, fresh water.
When it balances on top of the brim,
you are understood.
When it overflows and touches your skin,
you are loved.

When someone deeply listens to you
the room where you stay
starts a new life
and the place where you wrote
your first poem
begins to glow in your mind’s eye.
It is as if gold has been discovered!

When someone deeply listens to you
your barefeet are on the earth
and a beloved land that seemed distant
is now at home within you.
